Get your Shiitake mushroom garden started in one easy afternoon, without using hot wax! Each “thimble” is composed of a compressed "thimble" shaped plug of certified organic sawdust spawn, with a styrofoam seal already attached. Simply pop each thimble off the sheet and push into a hole drilled along your log. Place inoculated logs in a shady spot outside in spring, and harvest your mushrooms in the fall. Since thimble spawn is slightly more prone to drying out than plugs or sawdust, keep it refrigerated and use it within three weeks of opening. The first year after inoculation, provide plenty of shade and keep it moist, sprinkling between rains as needed.
Kit includes enough spawn to inoculate 12 logs (approx. 4" diameter by 40" long), 13mm drill bit with stop collar, aluminum tags, and instruction sheet. NOTE: Thimble spawn is made to order, so please allow 3 weeks for delivery.
